Pezeshkian: Negotiations with the U.S. are “pointless” — Iran does not trust Washington
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Monday that negotiations with the United States are “pointless” because Tehran cannot trust Washington, which, according to him, has repeatedly violated its commitments.
At a meeting with Armenia’s foreign minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, Pezeshkian said: “Every time we come to the negotiating table with good intentions, the other side acts contrary to its commitments. Negotiation is therefore pointless — we cannot trust a party that violates its own commitments,” as Al Jazeera reports.
He accused the U.S. of having attacked Iran three times after engaging in talks — a reference to the June war, in which the U.S. and Israel bombed Iranian nuclear facilities.
The statement comes at a moment when mediation efforts to end the war continue — Iran’s interior minister said on Sunday that Tehran is ready to open a new round of talks with Washington — while Iran continues to insist that it will not negotiate under pressure.
