Prosecution opens investigation into attack on gynecologist Dejan Ognenović at “Bucharest” clinic — no detention, precautionary measures

The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office of Skopje has announced that it has ordered the opening of an investigation against the attacker who beat Dr. Dejan Ognenović in his office at the “Bucharest” clinic, causing him serious injury — a fracture of a cervical vertebra.

According to the Prosecution’s announcement, the suspect is criminally prosecuted for the offense of “violence.” The Prosecution has not requested detention for him, but precautionary measures — among them a ban on approaching the doctor.

The attack happened on September 16, when the aggressor entered the office and beat gynecologist Ognenović. The doctor had previously testified that the attack came after a series of threats, suspecting that someone wanted to remove him from the “Bucharest” clinic.

The case has reopened the debate over the safety of healthcare workers in North Macedonia, where violence against doctors remains a worrying phenomenon and many cases go unreported.
