Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of “flagrant attacks” at the UN: calls for international condemnation of the Houthis
Saudi Arabia used its speech at the United Nations General Assembly to accuse Iran of “flagrant” attacks on civilian and economic targets in the region, while calling on the international community to condemn the actions of the Houthis, who threaten navigation in the Red Sea, as Al Jazeera reports.
The accusations come at a moment of high tension: the Houthis, allies of Iran, have intensified drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, including on energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, while Riyadh responded with a broad campaign of airstrikes in Yemen.
Riyadh has described the defense of the holy sites as a “red line” and has warned that it will respond “with resolve” to attacks, at a time when the U.S.–Iran war has expanded the front to the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea as well, Al Jazeera reports.
