Shohei Ohtani’s ‘most important’ jersey goes to auction, featuring the kanji autograph and MLB’s gold Logoman

The jersey Shohei Ohtani wore in the opening game of the 2025 MLB season in Tokyo is up for auction. It is the uniform he wore in the first meeting of the season, a special moment because of the place and circumstances of the event.

According to Bleacher Report, in TheRealest.com’s listing the jersey is described as the “most important” of his career. It features the autograph written in kanji and the first gold MLB Logoman patch ever used in a regular-season game. MLB approved the use of the gold Logoman before the 2025 season to honor six players who won individual awards the previous year — Ohtani (NL MVP), Aaron Judge (AL MVP), Chris Sale (NL Cy Young), Tarik Skubal (AL Cy Young), Paul Skenes (NL Rookie of the Year) and Luis Gil (AL Rookie of the Year). Since the Dodgers opened the season in Tokyo against the Cubs, Ohtani was the first player to wear the jersey with that customized patch on the back; it was also his first official MLB game played in his homeland.

Ohtani’s patch was later used for a dual-autograph Topps Gold Logoman card, which sold for $11 million in July. According to MLB.com reports, the Tokyo series was described as the largest standalone international event in MLB history, with records for audience, merchandising sales and attendance; the first game was MLB’s most-watched game in Japan, with over 25 million viewers across all platforms. In that meeting Ohtani went 2-for-5, with a double and two runs scored in the Dodgers’ 4–1 victory.

Interest in this jersey remains high and, as Bleacher Report again reports, the auction is expected to draw collectors and many parties because of its connection to the historic event and the unique elements it contains.
