Specialist Chambers: At least 303 people were mistreated by KLA members

The Trial Panel of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers has found that several members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) intentionally inflicted serious physical and psychological harm on at least 303 people, with the aim of extracting confessions, punishing or intimidating them on ethnic or political grounds.

According to the Trial Panel’s findings, the mistreatment of victims occurred between April 1998 and June 1999, in 14 municipalities of Kosovo, as well as at several locations in two districts of northern Albania.

The Court also found that KLA members, through deliberate acts or omissions, caused severe mental or physical suffering to at least 348 people who were not taking active part in the hostilities and who had been arrested and arbitrarily detained.

The findings are part of the Trial Panel’s conclusions regarding the mistreatment of detained persons during the war in Kosovo.
