Trump Posts Hormuz Map Labeled “Trump Strait” — New Mockery of Tehran After Ceasefire Rejection
President Donald Trump has posted on his Truth Social platform an image of the Persian Gulf region showing the Strait of Hormuz circled and labeled “Trump Strait” — the latest mockery by the U.S. president of Tehran, in the midst of the seven-month war between the two countries.
The post comes hours after Iran said it had offered the United States a seven-day plan to reopen the waterway and resume nuclear talks, and after The Wall Street Journal reported, citing U.S. officials, that Trump had rejected the proposal. According to the report, the U.S. president was skeptical that Tehran would meet his demands and saw a renewed bombing campaign as possible.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly earlier this week, Trump warned that with peace negotiations stalled, he might choose the “obliteration” of Iran — the harshest threat made so far in the conflict that began on February 28.
Under the Iranian ceasefire proposal, the Strait of Hormuz — the critical sea route through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied gas once passed — would reopen within a week, in exchange for lifting the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, releasing frozen funds and removing oil sanctions, as Al Jazeera‘s U.S.–Iran war liveblog reports. The story was also covered by the New York Post and The Sun.
