Two fire outbreaks flare up in Peqin, the wind favours the spread of the flames (VIDEO)

Two powerful fire outbreaks flared up at midday today at the entrance and exit of the town of Peqin, near the Rrogozhinë-Peqin-Elbasan national road.

The flames spread rapidly, favoured by the wind, engulfing areas of vegetation near the national road. The situation has caused concern for residents and for the drivers travelling on this road.

Footage from the ground shows the intensity of the flames, while a swift intervention by the forces on the ground is needed to isolate the outbreaks and prevent the fire from spreading.

The flaring up of these outbreaks comes after a difficult week for the Municipality of Peqin, where fires have caused considerable damage to olive groves, fruit-tree areas and vineyards. Dozens of hectares of land have been engulfed by the flames in several villages of the area.

The return of the fires adds to the concern of residents and farmers, while the situation on the ground continues to be monitored by the emergency structures.
