U.S. – Trump hosts Xi Jinping at the White House for a state dinner

WASHINGTON, September 24 /ATSH-DPA/ — U.S. President Donald Trump will host Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House today.

Trade relations and economic tensions between the U.S. and China are expected to be at the center of the meeting.

A state dinner is planned for the evening, where Trump and Xi will deliver remarks.

Executives of major American tech companies are also expected to attend the dinner, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The presence of the tech executives suggests that the race between the U.S. and China in developing artificial intelligence could be one of the main topics of Xi’s visit.

Xi arrived in Washington yesterday evening and will remain in the U.S. until Friday.

This is Xi Jinping’s first visit to the U.S. since 2023.

At the time he traveled to California for the APEC economic summit and met with then-U.S. President Joe Biden.

Trump invited Xi to the White House during his visit to Beijing in mid-May.
