Vuković: Thursday’s parliament vote is a fundamental test of civilization

One of the leaders of the European Alliance in Montenegro, Ivan Vuković, said that on Thursday, September 24, parliament will face “a fundamental test of civilization” — deputies will vote on the opposition’s initiative to dismiss parliament speaker Andrija Mandić. According to him, anyone who does not vote to dismiss a person under United States sanctions has no place in pro-European politics.

Vuković’s statement comes in reaction to the stance of three MEPs — Social Democrats and Greens — who last night called on the 40 pro-European deputies of the Montenegrin parliament to vote for Mandić’s dismissal, describing him as an obstacle to the country’s European path. The European Alliance leader welcomed the MEPs’ step and urged Montenegrin deputies to show where they stand.

Vuković added that after the elections in Herceg Novi, the ruling coalition no longer has democratic legitimacy. Thursday’s vote is expected to be a decisive moment for the future of political dialogue in the country and for relations with Brussels.
