Blushi’s strong statement: Thaçi was made a sacrifice; Kosovo can only be saved by uniting with Albania

Ben Blushi, a guest on Roland Qafoku’s “Dekalog” on DritareTV, delivered a strong analysis of the situation in Kosovo after the Special Court’s verdict against the former KLA leaders. At the center of his statements were Hashim Thaçi, the role of the West, Albin Kurti’s relations with the United States, and what Blushi sees as Kosovo’s ultimate way out.

Speaking about the Hague trial, Blushi dismissed the idea that Albin Kurti or other political factors in Kosovo could have had the power to influence the court’s decision. According to him, decision-making takes place at much higher international levels and is tied to interests that go beyond Hashim Thaçi himself. In this context, Blushi used the metaphor of the “sacrifice,” saying the former Kosovo president was sacrificed to keep a much larger structure standing. “Hashim Thaçi was that ram that is slaughtered in the foundations of a great building. He was made a sacrifice in the foundations of the Hague Court so that it may continue,” Blushi said.

Asked by Roland Qafoku who made Thaçi a “sacrifice,” Blushi referred to his earlier explanation of the role of Western factors, mentioning the United States and important European countries. Blushi also spoke about the role of Albania, saying Tirana had no possibility of influencing the judicial process beyond political and moral support. According to him, Albanian political parties have been on the same line in support of the former KLA leaders. “Albania is neutral in this process. Apart from moral support, there is nothing it can do. And I believe all parties have done that, fortunately,” he said.

Another strong point of the interview was Albin Kurti. Blushi said relations between Kosovo and the US have worsened during his rule, but separated this issue from the Hague process. According to him, the domestic politics of Kosovo and Albania had no influence on the court’s decision. For Blushi, the most urgent problem now is the internal situation in Kosovo. He called on political parties to set aside historical clashes over the war and find unity, warning that a prolonged political crisis could bring economic consequences and weaken international support. “There is a kind of national despair in Kosovo and, if this is deepened by the political parties, which throw Kosovo into another constitutional crisis, then it will be very delicate,” Blushi said.

But the strongest statement came when Roland Qafoku asked him whether Kosovo’s unification with Albania could be a final solution. “It is the only solution for Kosovo. The only solution for Kosovo that simultaneously solves Kosovo’s crisis with itself, with its own economy, with Serbia and with Europe,” Blushi declared. He further argued that, in his view, political parties in Kosovo should put this issue in their programs, singling out the PDK and saying that after the Hague verdict it finds itself in an entirely new political situation.
