Magistrates’ salaries: Rama invites justice institution leaders to a working table

Prime Minister Edi Rama has invited the leaders of justice institutions to a joint working table to discuss the magistrates’ salary system.

In a reaction on the social network X, Rama said the table’s goal is addressing the salary issue and finding a long-term sustainable solution that, in his view, guarantees both the treatment of magistrates and the overall balance of the state’s salary pyramid.

“I hope and believe that the representatives of the judicial power, from the leaders of the two councils onward to the leaders of the judiciary’s institutions, will respond positively to the invitation to sit together at a working table without wasting time, and to address the topic of the magistrates’ salary system in service of a long-term sustainable solution,” Rama wrote.

The Prime Minister said that Council of Europe experts will also be invited to the table, while emphasizing that the contribution of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice is also expected.

Rama also emphasized that magistrates’ independence and their salary level are, in his view, the result of the justice reform and the will of the governing majority.

“Albania’s magistrates should not forget that their until-recently unimaginable level of independence and their treatment with the highest salaries in the Republic of Albania and among the highest in the region did not fall from the sky; they bear the seal of the will of this governing majority,” the Prime Minister said.
