From “political assassinations” to “emigrant clashes”: Secret services’ versions of the murder of Kadri Zeka and the Gërvalla brothers

As part of the “Files” series of shows on Debat Plus with Ermal Panduri, documents from the Albanian and Yugoslav secret services have been published that speak about the circumstances of the murder of Kadri Zeka and the brothers Jusuf and Bardhosh Gërvalla, on January 17, 1982 in Untergruppenbach, Germany.

The documents present different versions of how the authorities of the time handled this event.

In a radiogram from the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated January 18, 1982, the event is described as an assassination. The document states that “Dajti”, the pseudonym of Kadri Zeka, and the brother of “Flamuri”, the pseudonym of Jusuf Gërvalla, were shot.

At that moment, the Albanian document reported that Jusuf Gërvalla had been seriously injured, while emphasizing that the circumstances and details of the murder were still unknown.

On the other hand, a document from the Yugoslav State Security Service (SDB) describes the murder of the brothers Gërvalla and Kadri Zeka as a “clash of emigrants.”

Meanwhile, in Kadri Zeka’s file there is also a report based on an AFP report from Heilbronn, on January 18, 1982, which states that three Yugoslav citizens of Albanian origin were killed in Untergruppenbach “for political motives”, according to the police./Tv Dukagjini
