On the 27th anniversary of the murder of the Bytyqi brothers, Kurti demands the punishment of those who gave the orders and executed the murders.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called for a full investigation into the murder of brothers Yll, Agron and Mehmet Bytyqi, emphasizing that justice for them remains an obligation of the Republic of Kosovo and the international community.

At the memorial gathering held on the balcony of the Prime Minister’s Office, on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the murder of the three Bytyqi brothers, Kurti said that their story is a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice and the fight for freedom.

He recalled that the three brothers, American citizens of Kosovo origin, joined the “Atlantic” volunteer unit of the Kosovo Liberation Army and participated in the liberation war against the Serbian regime.

Kurti also highlighted their humane act, recalling that on June 23, 1999, they were helping a Roma family flee Kosovo to Serbia when they were arrested by Serbian police. After serving a 15-day prison sentence, instead of being released, they were executed by the Serbian state apparatus, and their bodies were found in 2001 in the Petrovo Sello mass grave in Serbia.

“The Bytyqi brothers are clear evidence of Serbia’s crimes against Albanians and at the same time of its lack of will to take responsibility for these crimes,” Kurti declared.

He emphasized that the passage of time does not diminish the obligation for justice, but makes the burden of impunity even heavier.

According to Kurti, Kosovo and the United States of America have been united in demanding that the perpetrators and orderers of this crime be brought to justice.

The acting Prime Minister thanked the US for its continued engagement in this matter, also mentioning the resolutions adopted by the US House of Representatives in 2019 and 2022, through which Serbia was asked for cooperation in solving the case.

At the end of his speech, Kurti said that the Republic of Kosovo will continue to seek truth, responsibility and justice for the Bytyqi brothers.

“We will continue to work to achieve justice for them, until the end. In addition to our nation and our Republic progressing, justice for them must also be done to the end,” he said. / Telegraph /
